Art promotes our development and shapes how we see the world around us.
A fine arts education includes the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. This education offers several developmental benefits, including improved motor skills, language development, and visual learning. Beyond that, it improves creativity, inventiveness and promotes cultural awareness. Art provides exposure to world views drastically different from our own. It’s proven to be creative outlet and to help students master more difficult subjects.
A fine arts education is part of a well-rounded curriculum. Unfortunately, budget cuts and limited resources often cause these programs to be cut. Children are growing up without learning about art, music, theatre, drawing, sculpting and painting. Whether in practice or in theory, art shouldn’t be a luxury.
The Detroit Art Initiative is dedicated to helping local schools and students obtain supplies and funding for art programs. Through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, DAI aspires to turn compassion into action so that local schools are able to fund art initiatives and art continues to enrich the lives of our students and community.
